WINSTON CO., Miss. (WCBI) — An early morning fire that left a physically handicapped man and his 22 year old son homeless becomes a chance for a Winston County Supervisor to personally act as a good neighbor.

Winston County resident Buzzy G. Johns is forever grateful to the man who literally gave him and his 22 year old son Michael Thomas a new travel trailer. Johns and his father Ronnie Russell Johns will never forget the fire that destroyed their home around two thirty Christmas Morning 2013.

“I said well I ain’t left the light on, I turned that light out when I went through the living room, when I cut the corner, that’s when I seen the fire. And I woke my oldest son up, me and him got out there,” said Buzzy G. Johns/Winston County.

“One thing went through my mind, you read and hear about folks, folks like you on the news and all; It happened to them you don’t think nothing about it, you just go on with living. But when it happens to you it comes home,” said Ronnie Russel Johns/Fire Victim’s Father.

After a narrow escape from this burning home with only the clothes on their backs, Buzzy Johns contacted Winston County Supervisor Burr Warner informing him of their dilemma. Only a shed on their property was left standing after that holiday fire.

“We called to see if he knowed of somebody that had something, a trailer for sale. That’s when he called, let me call you back. He called back and said I got something better than that. I got a 40 foot travel trailer I’ll give you,” said Buzzy Johns.

From being homeless to owning a furnished RV Camper. The act of neighborly compassion has left our fire victim scratching his head.

“You don’t find people like that every day, but there are still good people in this world,” said Buzzy Johns.

“Sometimes it don’t look like it, but it is,” said Ronnie R. Johns.

Supervisor Warner tells WCBI News, he was just trying to help.
