PRENTISS COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — It may not have been a crippling Winter storm, but Northeast Mississippi did not completely escape the effects of a fast moving front. The Monday morning commute was a tricky one for motorists across the area, as ice-covered bridges and roads proved treacherous.
Law enforcement from the Tennessee state line down to Oktibbeha County reported icy patches on roadways. The Highway Patrol responded to over 50 crashes, including one in Prentiss County that injured four people. A 16 year old driving a 1978 Monte Carlo was traveling west on Mississippi Highway 4 when it struck a 2002 Buick Rendezvous driven by Patricia Yates. Yates and two teenaged passengers were taken to Baptist Hospital in Booneville with moderate injuries. An 8 year old occupant had to be taken to LeBonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis with serious injuries.
With temperatures expected to stay below freezing through Tuesday morning, troopers warn motorists to use extra caution while driving.
