STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – It’s a multimillion dollar, state-of-the art renovation in Starkville. The transformation of the historic Mill- or Mississippi State’s Cooley building- is right on track to open this summer.

After total investments, The Mill at MSU, is a project totaling $65 million dollars.

Ground was broken last March for The Mill on Russell Street and it’s slated to open on June 1st.

The transformation of the historic Mill building includes a 73,000 square foot conference center, a ballroom, break out rooms and top of the line office spaces.

“We can seat about 1,000 people in the ballroom or dine about 550, then it’s got some other conference centers you can break out in and then the balance of it is office space,” said The Mill Project Developer, Mark Castleberry.

Built in 1902, what makes The Mill unique is the historical preservation efforts of the building–including original brick, columns, natural light.

Castleberry says The Mill is a one-of-a kind space.

“It’s an iconic building, to our knowledge, this is the only mill in the south that will be open to the public. So a very special experience when you come to a conference here or have an office here, there’s not another place like it,” said Castleberry.

In addition to the renovations, a new 4-story Courtyard Marriott Hotel will be on site, along with a 450-car parking garage.

Castleberry says this is the biggest project he’s worked on and despite many challenges, seeing the total transformation is rewarding.

“I imagine I felt every emotion one can feel from sheer fear of knowing how much money I had invested and at points, it was all at risk, to now how nice it is to see it come to completion,” said Castleberry.

The project is 7 total buildings, including residential development, a new restaurant and retail stores.

11,000 square feet of office space remains available at The Mill, for more information contact Castle Properties at 662-244-7099
