COLUMBUS, Miss. – (WCBI)Tired of missed deadlines, Columbus has pulled the plug on an Indiana company’s idea of starting a lost-cost public bus service to the city.

Lawrence Transit failed to meet Thursday’s deadline to show major signs of getting its planned service up and running. A company official said it had not gotten word from the state on a possible grant to help fund the service. Mayor Robert Smith then voided the city’s dealings with the company. Smith says at least three other companies have expressed an interest in a similar service and he will begin talks with them next week. Smith says he hopes to see progress by next spring.
