Volunteer Firefighters Charged With Arson

ITAWAMBA, Miss. (WCBI) – Three volunteer firefighters are accused of setting fire to an Itawamba County home.
The Itawamba County Sheriff’s Department charged Dennis Howery, 19 of Mantachie, Tristen Loague, 19 of Fulton, and Collin Jones, 20 of Mantachie, with arson.

The suspects are accused of setting fire to a Dorsey mobile home early Sunday morning.

According to authorities, the three, who are volunteer firefighters at the Dorsey-Evergreen Fire Department, allegedly broke into the home after 1 am and set fire in multiple rooms.

They then fled the house, calling 911 to report the house fire, using one of their own phones to make the call, while giving the dispatcher a false name.

A sheriff’s deputy was in the area and responded to the fire within minutes. After a quick investigation, the deputy was alerted it was a likely case of arson. Additional suspicions were raised when the three suspects responded to the fire within minutes of the initial call.

Officials say all three suspects confessed to the arson. Their bonds have been set at $10,000 each.

If convicted, the suspects could face up to 20 years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine.
