Attorney: Wayne Harris Will Claim Self Defense

CALHOUN COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)-Calhoun County investigators are still waiting to question Wayne “Honkey” Harris about his involvement in a deadly shootout.

51-year-old Chris McGonagill died after the January 10th shootout during a cookout at his carpentry shop, south of Calhoun City.

Sheriff Greg Pollan has met with Harris’ attorney, who says Harris will fight any potential charges on the grounds of self defense.

McGonagill was shot six times with a .22 rifle and Harris was shot once in each leg. While recovering in the hospital, Harris refused to speak without his lawyer present.

Investigators have questioned witnesses. Sheriff Pollan says they will present their case to the April meeting of the Grand Jury.

No charges have been filed at this time. Pollan says alcohol was a factor in the incident.
