WCBI World’s Greatest Mom Contest

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Every mom is special but today a Ponotoc mother got a fairy tale Mother’s Day thanks to a special family and everything she’s endured in the last few years.

It was all smiles, hugs and tears for one lucky mother. Brenda Roberts and her family got to cruse on into town in Leo’s Luxury Limos. This was Roberts 1st time riding in a limo. Little did she know her daughter entered her in the WCBI World’s Greatest Mom Contest.

“When we first pulled up and she saw the limo she was like oh my goodness ya’ll didn’t have to, I was like well we kind of did but she was asking question the whole way here, she wanted to know what was going on, she thought we were going to Outback,” said daughter Misty McCraw.

Brenda was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011 but that didn’t stop her. She continued to push forward graduating Saturday from the Physical Therapy assistant program at ICC and even planning her daughter’s wedding.

“I had to get a physical and when I went to get my physical my doctor sent me to have my mammogram done and that’s when they found my breast cancer. So it’s kind of like they saved my life in a way so it’s just been a journey,” said Brenda Roberts.

“It was devastating to our family when we found out cut it was very unexpected but you know, she’s a strong, obviously she’s proved that today, graduated with special honors,” added McCraw.

She is now a one year cancer survivor. Dozens of friends and family waited for her as she pulled up to J. Broussards to enjoy their fine dining.

“We’ve all helped her through this and then to see her you know kind of take this step forward, it’s been a pretty cool experience. She’s just an all around good person and a good mom,” said son Cody Roberts.

“I couldn’t ask for a better family, I wouldn’t have it no other way,” added Brenda.

Brenda Roberts also won a gift certificate to Brickerton Day Spa, Spiller Furniture and the Mall at Barnes Crossing.
