LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — The way it looks … the way it feels … even the way it smells … there is nothing like a brand-new book.

Today, each student at West Lowndes Elementary received a free new book.

For many of the 160 children, these books are the beginning of their own personal home library.

First Book Lowndes County raises money to buy books for local children.

Board members plan to hand out books at other schools through out Columbus and Lowndes County.

Their goal is to provide elementary students with five books for their personal library by the end of the year.
