Video: West Lowndes Middle School Honors Black Pioneers

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)- Parents at West Lowndes Middle School traveled back in time Monday night in honor of Black History Month.

Sixth graders researched the Harlem Renaissance, chose a person and re-created the Great Migration of African Americans in the 1920s.

Parents went around to different displays while their children explained the contributions blacks made to society during that era.

They honored everyone from Josephine Baker to Duke Ellington and Langston Hughes.

It’s the first event of its kind at the middle school. The kids said what they enjoyed about the project the most was dressing up.
