West Point Man Charged in Weekend Shooting

West Point, MS, Tuesday, September 9, 2013:(PRESS RELEASE) Shortly after 2:00pm Sunday (9/8/13) afternoon police were dispatched to the 500 block of Washington Street in reference to a shooting. E911 reported to officers that an ambulance had been dispatched. Upon arrival police discovered a man at a residence who appeared to be suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg.

The man reported that a male acquaintance came to his home and initiated a disturbance. The victim, whose name is not being released, told police that during the dispute a gun was displayed and a shot was fired striking him. The man also gave police a description of the man and the vehicle he was driving when he fled the scene.

A short time later 26 year old Dermarius Brown turned him in to authorities without incident. His last known address is 406 North Division, West Point. He is charged with one count of Aggravated Assault and has been released on a $25, 000 bond.
