West Point Market Robbed Again

WEST POINT, Miss. (Press Release) — On the morning of Tuesday, January 20, at 6:30am, officers of the West Point Police Department responded to a report of an armed robbery at Texaco Handy Mart, Hwy 45 Alt. North. This store was the focus of at least two prior robberies and one attempted robbery since late-September.

The caller stated that the suspect fled the scene in a white Jeep Cherokee and went east on Industrial Access Rd. Upon arrival at the scene officers spoke with employees who reported that a black male came into the store with a gun demanding money. The clerk said he was wearing a black hoodie with a yellow bandana covering his face.

The clerk also said the subject only wanted the 20’s and 10’s that were in the register. The suspect took an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the scene. The only letter on the license plate that was visible to the employee was an “L”. The clerk also reported witnessing the suspect get into the vehicle which was parked in the gravel on the south side of the store. The clerk and a co-worker watched the subject until they could no longer see his vehicle.

He was only described as a black male medium height and build, wearing a black hoodie and jeans. According to the Chief of Police, “Detectives are actively investigating this case and have questioned a number of suspects. We are anticipating making an arrest in this case soon”.
