WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) — A West Point police officer faces termination after getting into a dispute with his girlfriend and then pulling his service revolver and threatening to kill himself in a downtown restaurant Saturday night.

Several sources tell WCBI that Jeremy Bell had been drinking when the domestic dispute started in Soprano’s on Main Street. The manager of Soprano’s called 911 and by the time officers arrived, Bell, who was not in uniform or on duty, had gone to the Twisted Burger nearby where he pulled his revolver and threatened to kill himself.

Fellow Officer Stephen Young, who was off duty, disarmed him and Bell was taken to a hospital for treatment and evaluation.

He has been released, but his police gear has been confiscated and he’s been placed on administrative leave while Police Chief Tim Brinkley investigates.

Under department policies, officers are discouraged from drinking at local bars and restaurants.

West Point Selectmen meet March 12 and could decide then to terminate Bell.

He’s been with the city less than two years after starting out with the Starkville Police Department, where he also was let go.
