Winona Seeks New Fire Chief
Winona, MS (WCBI) – Three people have applied to be the new Winona fire chief but it’ll be next week before they get a formal review from aldermen.
City leaders will interview the three during a special meeting sometime next week. The department has 15 full-time and volunteer firefighters and a budget of more than 300 thousand a year.
James “Smitty” Smith retired at the end of January after 10 years as chief and 25 years with the department. In his retirement, the 62-year-old is working part-time for the Vaiden Police Department and Winona city leaders have discussed the possibility of hiring Smith later this spring to be the city’s new codes enforcement officer.
