WINSTON COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — The plans are in place, now Winston Medical Center (WMC) needs approval from the government to move forward.

Right now, there are temporary, full-service medical facilities on the site where the hospital is located.

On April 28, the building took a direct hit from an EF-4 tornado.

Eventually, administrators want to have a state-of-the-art hospital, but cannot put a timetable in place until paperwork is approved.

“We do need to adhere to some, both state and federal, requirements before we can do anything on that site,” WMC Interim Administrator Paul Black said. “Our future plans are that, at the current time, it looks like these buildings on that site are going to be torn down and we are going to start fresh.”

The medical center’s nursing home reopened last week.
