Worker Pepper Sprayed by Suspected Shoplifters

BILOXI, Miss. (Press Release) — Biloxi police say a suspected group of shoplifters pepper sprayed a Wal-Mart employee.

Lt. Christopher De Back tells The Sun Herald (http://bit.ly/1GWRZ3x) three woman and a man were attempting to exit the store Monday night with a cart full of unpaid merchandise when an associate approached them to ask if they had paid.

Shortly after the confrontation, De Back says someone in the group pepper sprayed the associate and fled the store.

Although this situation isn’t common, said Capt. Terry Hines with the D’Iberville Police Department, it can happen.

“I’ve seen shoplifters use a Taser, brandish a knife and pepper spray,” he said.

Police say employees need to know how to protect themselves during an unexpected moment.

Biloxi police are attempting to identify the four suspects.
