Video: WPHS Drummer Beats Competition

WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) — A West Point High School Band member is not missing a beat, snare drummer Jacobe Jones becomes a first and second round pick during a November auditions in Jackson for the Premier Mississippi Lions Band.

Jones has been working on his drum skills he’ll use in July during the International Lions Parade and competition held in Hawaii.

Jones has been making a lot of noise at home and around the state with his drum solo rendition of “Take Two”.

“It was over 600 that tried out that day and they cut it down to 300 and after the 300 it was cut down to 150,” WPHS Band Director Rickey Brown said.

“I’m honored to be able to represent not only West Point and my school, but the state of Mississippi,” WPHS band drummer Jacobe Jones said.

The Mississippi Lions Band has captured the international title 20 times since 1980.
