WPPD Arrest West Point Man in Connection to March Shooting

WEST POINT, Miss. (Daily Times Leader) — West Point police have made an arrest in connection to an alleged shooting incident March 24 in the Dollar General parking lot on Highway 45 North Alternate in West Point.

According to a statement issued by the West Point Police Department, officers were dispatched to the Dollar General last week after a dispute inside the store reportedly resulted in shots fired. Store surveillance footage showed group of unidentified men — some investigators believe to be juveniles — gathered in the parking area, where one allegedly opened fire on an unoccupied vehicle.

According to the statement, the vehicle belonged to an unnamed man who reportedly entered into an argument with one of the aforementioned juveniles inside the store just prior to the incident. Two vehicles were damaged during the altercation, however no injuries were reported.

Police apprehended Kyle Porter, 17, of West Point, Tuesday under suspicion of being the shooter. Porter was charged as an adult and faces “several felony counts” relating to discharging a firearm at a motor vehicle.
