COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Many authors come to Mississippi University for Women for the annual writer’s symposium.

Everyone from poetry writers to published novel authors showcased their work tonight at the Eudora Welty building to honor her accomplishments.

Each author read sections from their published work.

Louisiana native Tim Parrish was the keynote speaker for tonight’s event.

Parrish read from his two books “Fear and What Follows” and “The Jumper,” a book which holds a special meaning to him.

“My parents are from Mississippi originally,” Parrish said. “I grew up in Baton Rouge, so I’m going to read parts from the memoir tonight that have a lot to do with my father who passed away this year, so it’s going to be kind of a tribute to him.”

The writer symposium will go on through the weekend.
