YALOBUSHA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)- A Memphis area doctor who survived a September 3rd plane crash in Yalobusha County continues to recover at a Memphis hospital.
Doctor Kenneth Byrd remains in critical condition in the Regional Medical Center with a spinal fracture, head injury, collapsed lung and numerous broken bones. Relatives say he is making slow progress, including opening his eyes and squeezing family members’ hands, but faces a long, painful recovery.
Byrd was trapped for 11 hours in the wreckage of his Cessna 210 before rescuers found him in a grove of trees in northwestern Yalobusha County September 3rd. Investigators think he may have run out of gas trying to avoid storms that were moving through the area. He was flying from North Carolina home to Memphis.
