Youths Injured in Ice-Related Prentiss County Crash

PRENTISS COUNTY, Miss. (Press Release) — The Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to over 50 crashes this morning due to icy conditions. Overall Troopers assisted over 70 motorist which had crashes or just needed assistance after sliding off the road.

The most severe crash was in Prentiss County and involved two children and two teenagers.

At approximately 7:20am, Troopers were dispatched to MS 4 in Prentiss County near County Road 5091. Upon arriving it appeared a 16 year old teen driver, driving a 1978 Monte Carlo, was traveling west bound on MS 4, when she apparently lost control of her vehicle and collided head-on into a 2002 Buick Rendezvous, driven by Patrica T Yates, 69, of Booneville.

The 16-year-old driver was uninjured in the crash.

There were three passengers in Yates vehicle. Yates, a 16-year-old teen and a 14-year-old teen were transported to Baptist Booneville with moderate injuries. An 8-year-old child was transported to LeBonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN, with serious injuries.

The 14-year-old teen and 8-year-old child were ejected from the vehicle during the crash.

The crash remains under investigation. It appears the road conditions may have contributed to the crash.

All the teens and child all attend Prentiss County Schools.
