Lowndes County law enforcement warning residents of Facebook messenger scam

ScamLOWNDES COUNTY, MISS. (PRESS RELEASE) – The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office is getting reports of victims receiving messages through Facebook messenger or text message from a company named Municipal Services Bureau (MSB), a collection agency working on behalf of Lowndes County Justice Court. This agency is contacting citizens telling them that they owe money for an outstanding fine and wanting to set up a payment schedule. This is a scam!!! The Lowndes County Justice Court does not have any type of payment method set up in this manner. The Sheriff’s Office warns citizens not to give out personal information including account or credit card numbers. These scammers consistently change up their approach by claiming to be from governmental agencies. Lowndes County personnel will never contact members of the public by any form of messaging to demand money or any other form of payment Don’t fall for high-pressure tactics, including threats that you’re about to be arrested for not paying your fine, as your local law enforcement and government agencies do not operate in this manner.
