VIDEO: Passport To Wellness Learn To Get Moving

COLUMBUS, Miss.(WCBI)—In an effort to make learning fun and healthy the Mississippi University For Women is continuing it’s health initiative.

Passport to Wellness Teacher Institute is a program sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation of Mississippi.

20 elementary school teacher from across the Golden Triangle gathered on campus to learn unique ways to help the students learn more effectively in the classroom.

The teachers all teach different subjects from Math, Science, History, and English. Passport to Wellness Director April Barlow says getting the kids to move will help with their studies.

“What they are doing is incorporating physical activity and nutrition in everyday subjects. P.E. is getting cut across the board and so as teachers and as a community we we have to figure out how we are going to get physical activities for these kids,”said Barlow.

Each of the 20 teachers work under mentors with more than three decades of teaching experience in Physical Education.
