MACON, Miss. (WCBI) — Noxubee County left no doubt last year as to who the beat team in Class 4A was.
The Tigers ran roughshod through St. Stanislaus in the 2014 State Title, as they were back atop the state once again.

Fast forward to the present, and all that is being talked about in Macon is State Title number two.
Head coach Tyrone Shorter knows his team must focus on the matter at hand and not look ahead to what may be in the postseason.
“We’re focusing on our first opponent,” Shorter said. “We’re not looking ahead and that’s what we teach them. Let’s focus on what’s happening now.”
“We’re not even talking about the next game,” senior Bobby May said. “We’re taking our schedule and putting a question mark next to our first opponent which is Starkville. We’re not even worried about them because we’re focused on our jamboree.”
“It’s a great chance to make history here,” senior Quendarion Barnett said. “It would be a good feeling knowing we were the class to repeat for the first time at Noxubee County.”
History is most certainly on the minds at Noxubee this upcoming season, but it would be easy to be happy with one State Title.
Yet the dominant senior class returning doesn’t want to leave a legacy that way. They want a Championship to claim as their own.
“They feel like they can win every football game,” Shorter said. “They’re not just satisfied winning the State Championship last year. Sometimes as a coach you wonder are they satisfied, are they content with just winning one last year. But every senior group wants to win one for their class.”
“Hard work really pays off,” senior Quincy Stokes said. “They will all see that come December.”
December is a long way away for the Tigers and they will be focused and busy on easily the toughest schedule in the state this year: Starkville, Columbus, Meridian, West Point and Kemper County are all on the non-division slate.
Plus, Noxubee will travel to Texas on September 4th to play the defending Texas 5A State Champion Aledo Bearcats.
It will surely be an arduous journey, but the Tigers aim to be the first team to go back to back in school history.
“It would feel good to win three rings,” senior Timorrius Conner said. “I want to make history and do it for my family. We can’t get ahead of ourselves. We have to take one game at a time and just go back to back.”
“It would be great to make history,” senior Jeffery Simmons said. “I told everyone yesterday it’s the beginning of our journey. It’s time for Noxubee to make history. We’ve never won State back to back. That’s what we’re working on.”
Expect a wild, and exciting ride at Noxubee this year as the Tigers aim at history in 2015.
