MSU Softball Ranked in Newest ESPN/USA Top 25

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI/MSU Athletics) – Following a perfect weekend to move its overall record to 10-0, Mississippi State came in at No. 23 in this week’s ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll.

This marks the highest ranking for the Bulldogs in this poll since April 2008 when MSU was tied for 23rd. State most recently cracked the Top 25 in the Week 6 poll (25) during the 2015 season.

MSU has already collected two wins over 2015 NCAA Tournament teams this season, including a 4-2 comeback win at then No. 23 South Alabama in eight innings Thursday night. The Bulldogs have outscored opponents 65-15 thus far in 2016 with help from a pitching staff that has a 0.51 earned run average that ranks third in the nation.

On deck for the Bulldogs is four games in three days in Gulfport, Mississippi as part of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Classic. The Bulldogs will open on Friday, Feb. 26 against McNeese State at 8 p.m. CT from the Gulfport Sportsplex.
