MACON, Miss. (WCBI) — A big man is worthy of a big celebration.

Noxubee County senior Jeffery Simmons was officially selected as a member of the 2016 U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Simmons joins Oxford High’s DK Metcalf as fellow Magnolia State natives playing in the prestigious game.

Simmons is one of the top high school football prospects in the nation, with offers from nearly every school in the SEC.

He may be viewed as a gentle giant away from the gridiron, but when he’s on it he is a force and is proud to represent where he is from.

“It’s an honor to play in this game,” Simmons said. “I want to show everyone I’m from Mississippi and I’m proud to represent my school.”

“He’s an incredible kid,” Noxubee County head coach Tyrone Shorter said. “He’s a great person. Humble, respectful, he’s a hard worker. Wherever he decides to go to school, he’s going to be the best at it. That’s the type of person he is.”

Shorter will join Simmons at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Texas. The game will be played on Saturday, January 6th at 12:00pm.
