Monroe County honors first responders and others at inaugural 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

AMORY, Miss. (WCBI) – Towns and cities across the state took time out today to remember the lives lost in the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001.

In Amory, Monroe County residents joined firefighters, law enforcement, Emergency Management, and medical responders at Frisco Park for the city’s first Moment of Remembrance.

Many of the lives lost, especially at the World Trade Center in New York City, were first responders, so the day holds special meaning for the men and women in those professions.

It’s a time to reflect not only on the losses of that day, but on the tragedies they see on a daily basis.

Chief Kerry Scott of the Amory fire Department says it’s also important to educate the younger generations.

“I think time makes it easy for us to forget, if we don’t keep things like this going to keep the reminders alive, the memory alive, of all those people who sacrificed and the heroes of that time.”

Scott says the Mayor and Board of Aldermen were very supportive, and there is support for making it a regular event.
