MHP Cadet Class #69 graduates in Pearl

PEARL, Miss. (WCBI) – High School and College seniors are not the only ones in Mississippi graduating.

The latest Mississippi Highway Patrol cadet class graduated this week.

Cadet Class number 69 consisted of 38 cadets.

The cadets went through 18 weeks of classroom, physical fitness, firearms, and emergency operations training at the MS Law Enforcement Academy in Pearl.

For their efforts, they earned 12 semester college-accredited hours in police science courses, including criminal justice, criminal law, police management, and leadership.

Friends, families, and state officials got to witness the cadets receive their badges and officially become state troopers.

State Senator Briggs Hopson served as the keynote speaker for the ceremony.

Senator Hopson wants to reinforce legislators to continue their support for law enforcement.

“I want them to know that Mississippians, by and large, support law enforcement.” said State Senator Briggs Hopson. “We’re there to offer them encouragement. We’re there to offer our prayers. We’re there to offer any kind of support we can to help them do their jobs. So, we thank them for the sacrifices they’re making. But we also want to make sure that they feel like they’re emboldened and supported along the way.”

Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann and MS Supreme Court Justice Jenifer Branning were also in attendance.
