Remembering Alabama State Representative Alan Harper

ALABAMA (WCBI) – A former Alabama State Representative has passed away.

Flags at the Alabama State Capitol and in Northport and Tuscaloosa were flying at half-staff today in memory of Alan Harper.

Harper represented District 61, which covers Pickens, Tuscaloosa, and Greene Counties, in the Alabama House of Representatives for 12 years.

One of his main goals was economic development in the district.

Harper played a large role in bringing the women’s prison to Aliceville and, in his role with the Tuscaloosa County Industrial Development Authority, before his time in the Legislature, helped bring the Mercedes plant to Tuscaloosa.

He was first elected as a Democrat in 2006 but switched parties in 2012, and remained in the Alabama House until 2018.

Harper was 68 years old.
