City Council approves contract for striping work in Columbus
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Traffic along Bluecutt Road may soon be a little safer.
At a work session today, the Columbus City Council voted to award a contract for striping work to the area around the new traffic light at Bluecutt Road and Leigh Drive to J.C. Cheek Contractors.
The striping and marking will be among the last steps before the light goes into full operation.
Currently, it is blinking red from the Leigh Drive approach and yellow on Bluecutt. When work is complete, it will be a fully functional stoplight with a left-turn signal on the Bluecutt approach.
The intersection has been a dangerous one for drivers coming from both directions, and many people have said the light is long overdue.
Real estate negotiations to acquire the necessary right-of-way further prolonged the process even after plans for the light were approved.
Work could begin as early as late April, weather permitting.
