Oxford Police gives warning about “CAPTCHA” scam in the area
OXFORD, Miss. (WBI) – Scammers are getting even more creative, and law enforcement is reminding the public to stay aware and safe.
Oxford Police are warning about a “CAPTCHA” scam that installs malware on your devices.
We have all had to do is verify that you are not a robot.
Typically, these types of pop-ups task you to select certain images, match objects, or type letters on the screen, but OPD is warning that if a Captcha ever asks for you to press Windows + R, then Ctrl + V, then enter. That is NOT real.
If you have already interacted with one of these scams, disconnect from the internet, run a security scan, and change your passwords.
