MISSISSIPPI UNIVERSITY FOR WOMEN (WCBI) – Students head back to class on area university campuses this week.

Today, it was MUW’s turn.

The first day of class was a more relaxed atmosphere.

Students were greeted by representatives from various campus groups as they made their way across campus.

There was informational material and even a few treats available along the way.

Faculty at The W say even though the school’s academic standards are high, the overall “feel” is more relaxed and open.

“When they come. When the students come back here to classes, since we are so small. You know, we may have classes as small as 15. Probably the max is going to be around 30, so they come in, they recognize faces. They get to know each other really quickly. They get to know their professors fast, and it’s just a home environment and a fun environment where everybody feels welcome, and you’re not just a number; you’re a name, and we like it that way. We try to make it that way for everybody that comes on campus,” said Dr. Lee Larson, Chair of MUW Department of Business.

The W got back to class today. Classes start at Mississippi State tomorrow.
