Burn bans issued for areas in Alabama and Mississippi

MISSISSIPPI AND ALABAMA (WCBI) – Temperatures are high, and so are the chances for fires to start, and that’s causing cities to be more cautious in Mississippi and Alabama.

Two cities so far are under a burn ban: Grenada and Aliceville.

Grenada’s Fire Chief Hollis Bloodworth said anything with an open flame that produces an ember is not allowed during the ban.

That includes activities like bonfires and debris burning. However, he says propane and charcoal grills are allowed.

Bloodworth advises residents to always let the coals cool completely and soak in water before disposing in a metal container.

Grenada is under the burn ban until September 1.

And in Aliceville, the city is under a burn ban until further notice.

Fire Chief Derrick Jones said all outdoor burning is prohibited and that no burn permits will be issued during the ban.

WCBI will keep you updated if more cities are added to the list of bans.
