Woman faces DUI charges in connection with a fatal crash in Lowndes Co.

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A Noxubee County woman is facing DUI charges in Lowndes County in connection with a fatal crash.

Shortly before 8 this morning, the United States Fugitive Task Force arrested 34-year-old Amanda Carrie Ross in her Macon home for the February incident.

On February 18, the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office got called to Industrial Road about an equipment-related accident involving an injury.

Officials say when deputies arrived on scene, they discovered that a Jones Logistics semi-truck, driven by Ross, had collided with a United Rentals street sweeper operated by Leslie Brent Williamson. Williamson was transported to the local hospital and later died from his injuries.

When deputies conducted a sobriety test, authorities say Ross showed signs of impairment and that she admitted to taking Lortab and that she was in possession of the medication.

Investigators then obtained a search warrant for a blood sample, and in June, the toxicology analysis results came back from the State Forensic Crime Lab. The results revealed several controlled substances in Ross’ system from the time of the accident, which led to her arrest.

Ross was charged with Aggravated DUI and is now waiting in the Lowndes County jail for her initial court appearance.

No bond has been set yet.
