MUW hosts annual Golden Triangle Regional College Fair

COLUMBUS, MS – The Mississippi University for Women hosted the Golden Triangle Regional College Fair today on campus at Pohl Gym.

The event hosted 17 different high schools from the GTR, along with a bunch of different colleges and universities, along with different military options. Associate Director of Recruitment for the MUW Office of Admissions Sidney Stewart was at the event and talked about the importance of this event for the students.

“The main goal is just for them to connect,” said Stewart. “We want the students to know what opportunities are out there for them and how they can pursue them. And it’s really good that they’re able to make contacts with those different colleges and universities and military branches. So, if they have more questions or if they really want to see what that path could look like for them, they have the opportunity to follow up and just kind of check out their options.”

One of the schools in attendance today was Heritage Academy. The school brought 40 seniors to the expo. Heritage Academy Academic Counselor Allison Iles talked about the advice she was giving her students for the event.

“We’re advising them to talk to every table,” said Iles. “To see what every table has to offer you specifically financially. I mean, it is important that our students blaze their own path, and because we have such strong academic students, they’ve earned the right to pay for their own way through their success. And we want to make sure that they’re talking to every single table that’s here. All the military personnel so that they can find a college that fits them individually.”

Expo organizers say the turnout for today was good and consider the event to be a success.
