Breezy Fall Day

COLUMBUS, Mississippi (WCBI) — As we get into the first full day of fall, plenty of sunshine and breezy conditions will be a welcome change for many from the blistering heat and humidity of the past several weeks.

WEDNESDAY: The high temperature for the Golden Triangle and areas south of Highway 8 will be around 92°. However, there is a stronger-than-normal temperature gradient across northeast Mississippi today due to robust northwesterly flow in the upper levels. Counties north of Highway 8 are likely to see high temperatures of around — or a couple of degrees cooler than — 90°, and areas closer to the Tennessee state line may only get up to about 85° today. Plenty of sunshine is in store across our area for today. It will also be a bit breezy at points, with sustained surface winds out of the north-northeast at 5 to 10 mph.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Clouds will increase throughout the night, making for mostly overcast conditions by the morning. The low temperature will be 66°. Similarly to the daytime, breezy conditions will continue overnight, with winds out of the north at 5 to 10 mph.

THURSDAY: The high temperature for tomorrow will be about 90°. Skies will start out cloudy in the morning, but will gradually clear to become mostly sunny later in the afternoon. There is a 20% chance for some very isolated spot showers tomorrow. We’re not expecting any widespread or persistent rain. However, it certainly is possible that a couple of short-lived showers will pop up over the course of the day. Winds will be out of the northeast at 5 mph.
