Concerned residents in Columbus helping their neighbors get quality healthcare information
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Getting accurate, quality healthcare information can be difficult, especially for seniors and others with limited mobility.
In Columbus, some concerned residents helped their neighbors by organizing the Community Health Connection.
Keith Worshaim partnered with the Columbus Housing Authority and a number of vendors in the health and insurance sectors to help bring good information to Columbus residents.
There were several topics discussed including changes coming to Medicare, like new plans and different benefits.
Carol Jamison, an independent insurance broker, says it’s important to get your information from a trusted source.
“Be careful answering your phonecalls, because there’s a lot of scammers. There are a lot of telemarketers. I would advise, if you can go locally, go cll someone that you’re familiar with, or someone can refer you to an agent or broker that can come and sit down and talk to you, meet with you face to face. You just got to be careful answering your phonecalls. The people on the phone may not have your best interest at heart.”
Medicare Open Enrollment starts October 15th and runs through December 7th.
