Still Feels Like Summer

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — With high temperatures in the low nineties, it still feels like summer here in northeast Mississippi, and it will feel this way a little longer before things cool down heading into the weekend.

WEDNESDAY: We are once again likely to break the record high temperature for today. For Columbus, the record was set in 1985 at 89°, while today’s forecast high is 93°. We’re expecting mostly sunny conditions across our area through most of the day. However, an isolated shower or two could pass over our northern counties this afternoon. Any rain will be brief and very isolated, and areas south of Highway 278 should be completely free of rain today. Winds start calm and increase to 5 mph out of the south-southwest.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: It should feel comfortable overnight, with a low around 62°. Skies will be mostly clear. However, patchy smoke and haze may develop between 1 and 4 a.m. South-southeasterly winds at 5 mph become calm before midnight.

THURSDAY: Still feels like summer heading into tomorrow, with a high temperature around 92°. Clear, sunny skies are likely all day long. Calm winds increase to 5 mph out of the west-southwest by midday.

Heading Into the Weekend

The strong (but dry) cold front will push across our area Friday morning. Midday temperatures could still reach the low eighties, but a sharp cooldown will follow behind the frontal boundary, making the afternoon and evening feel anywhere from 10 to 30 degrees cooler. Windy conditions will also help bring that feels-like temperature down. Sustained winds could reach 20 mph on Friday, with gusts up to 30 mph.

Through the weekend, highs are likely to stay in the seventies, and lows will drop into the forties each night. High pressure will keep skies clear and sunny. Into next week, those more fall-like temperatures will stick around, although we could reach the lower eighties by mid-week.
