Body found in Columbus leads to suspicious investigation

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)-

The discovery of a body in Columbus leads to a suspicious death investigation.

Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant was called to the Emergency Room at Baptist Golden Triangle regarding the death of a 32-year-old black woman.

She has since been identified as Deasia Sharday Boykin.

Merchant says Boykin was found unresponsive in the 300 block of 14th Street North in Columbus by passing traffic.

Baptist Ambulance Service responded to the scene and took her to the hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

The death is being treated as a suspicious death, and the Columbus Police Department has started an investigation.

An autopsy has been ordered, and Boykin’s body will be taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office.
