The National Exchange Club recognizes November as One Nation Under God month

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)-

Each November the National Exchange Club recognizes November as One Nation Under God Month.

The month serves as a reminder to strengthen indivdual andmoral responsibility, heighten awareness of America’s religious heritage, and encourage thanks for the blessings of liberty.

Local clubs also hold patriotic programs during the month.

Thursday, the Columbus Exchange Club heard from local veteran retired Army Colonel George William Heath about his nearly 30 years of active duty and reserve military service and post-military career.

Heath served from 1958 to 1989, was among the early advisors sent into Vietnam, and was awarded the Silver Star for valor.

He says he was just doing his duty..

“I’m very proud to be an American. I’m very proud of what it stands for to be an American, and what this country is all about, and what it requires to remain a good country. Being a veteran, I’m very proud to serve. I was ready to go serve in the military and do my part. I feel that I did my part, and as a result, I know many veterans that do a good job and were proud. I didn’t look for awards. I didn’t look for this. I just looked to go and do my job and accomplish the mission.”

Heath’s post-military took him to Saudi Arabia working on civil engineering projects.
