A Hot Start to September
COLUMBUS, Mississippi (WCBI) — Today is the first day of September! It might be a new month, but with this high heat persisting across our area, it doesn’t really feel like it’s not August anymore.
TUESDAY: The high temperature for today will be around 98°, but with abundant sunshine sticking around all day long, the max heat index will get up to around 104°. A heat advisory is in effect for much of the Mississippi Valley and surrounding environs, including Grenada and Carroll counties, through 7 o’clock this evening. A few clouds may move across our area in the afternoon and evening, but conditions will be mostly clear for today. Winds are out of the east at 5 mph.
TUESDAY NIGHT: Any lingering cloud cover will dissipate before midnight, making for mostly clear conditions overnight. The low temperature will be 74°, with winds out of the east-southeast at 5 mph.
WEDNESDAY: Continuing days of sunshine, as will as increasing moisture in the atmosphere, will bring tomorrow’s heat index up to about 106°, even with an actual high temperature of 98°. Lots of sunshine will be in store, with a few passing clouds in the afternoon and evening. Winds will be out of the east-southeast at 5 mph.
Checking in on the tropics, Tropical Storm Edouard off the central Louisiana Gulf Coast is likely to make landfall over Texas by this evening. However, no impacts from this system are expected in our area due to the prevailing high pressure system.
