AL Governor announces new statewide system has gone live
ALABAMA (WCBI) – Alabama residents have a new way to get warnings about possible natural disasters.
Governor Kay Ivey announced earlier today that the new statewide notification system has gone live.
The new system, managed by the Alabama Emergency Management Agency, will alert residents to floods and other disasters.
In her State of the State Address in January, Ivey revealed that funding was in place. She had called for such a system after the flash flooding in Texas that killed 27 people, including campers at Camp Mystic.
The alerts will go out to cellphones and landlines, as well as television and radio.
Residents can opt in by going to the Alabama EMA website ema.alabama.gov and going to the ALalert tab, or they can sign up via text by texting ALalert to 77295.
