Associate Program Director Dr. Will Ford speaks at Columbus Rotary Club

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Many people may not realize it, but Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle is also a teaching hospital.

Baptist is home to an Internal Medicine Residency Program.

The hospital takes on 9 residents a year for a three-year intensive program to become Internal Medicine specialists.

All of the training isn’t confined to the Baptist Golden Triangle campus. Community engagement is a major component of the young doctors’ educations.

And one of the offshoots of that engagement may be where those residents choose to go *after* they complete their training.

“In the 10 years of our program, we have graduated 38 docs, and over half of them have stayed to practice here in Columbus exactly, or in the state, or they’ve gone on to fellowship, which is a training you can do after Internal Medicine to become either a Nephrologist or Cardiologist or Pulmonologist,” said Internal Medicine Residency PGM Associate Program Director Dr. Will Ford.

Baptist Golden Triangle interviews more than 100 candidates for the residency program every year.
