‘Baptist Egg Bowl’ food drive: Baptist Golden Triangle claims the win

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Two area food pantries will be able to carry out their mission of feeding the community thanks to a friendly competition between two hospitals.

Baptist Golden Triangle is the winner of this year’s “Baptist Egg Bowl” food drive.

The Columbus facility competed against its sister hospital, Baptist North Mississippi in Oxford. to collect the most non-perishable food items.

Baptist employees collected more than 20,000 items.

During a special celebration, they donated the food to the Helping Hands Food Pantry in Columbus.

“They showed up and showed out. This is all a credit to them they help patients inside the walls of these hospitals and now they’re helping the community with this canned food drive,” said Jenni Gordman, HR Director for BMH.

“We have been so low. We’ll buy one item or a few items and fill the spaces then we look and it’s, like, we’re low on something else. This is going to fill all the spots for a really, really long time which is amazing. So, we can give our food clients the full amount of food and they won’t be missing parts of it,” said Jennifer Garrard, Executive Director of Helping Hands.

Employees at Baptist North Mississippi in Oxford collected just over 13,000 food items and donated them to a local food pantry.
