Bassmaster finishes weekend with Family Expo during tournament

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – As the weekend wraps up, so does the Bassmaster Elite Series being hosted in Columbus.
The competition also brought in activities for families and fans to watch in person at Expo and Fun Day.
Fishermen from around the world have come to Columbus to participate in the 4-day Bassmaster Elite Series.
But it wasn’t just competition on the waterway. There was also fun for the families and spectators at the Columbus Marina.
“It is important for our sponsors to be able to be here and interact with the locals as well,” Eric Lopez, Bassmaster Elite Series Event Director, said. “All of our sponsors represent the boat companies, manufacturers, and vehicles that all the anglers use, so they are here showing off their greatest products as well. It is also just a fun time and free entertainment.”
This is the 1st time the Bassmaster Elite Series has been held in Columbus and only the 2nd time in the state.
They made sure to bring live music, jumpers, and other activities for families to get into.
“I usually just watch this live or on our phones or TV, so it is really nice for them to come so close where we can actually experience it in person,” Alexis Newell said. “But we have had a great time so far, and I am hoping they come back.”
Alexis Newell said she just moved to the Friendly City and that it is fulfilling to be part of events like the Expo and the Bassmaster tournament.
“For me personally, bass fishing is such a relaxing time,” Newell said. “You get to go out, enjoy nature, be in the water, and get outside because a lot of times we get stuck inside, but bass fishing is such a fun thing to do outside. I think it is just good to be able to hang out with your friends and enjoy nature.”
The Bassmaster Elite Series has been around for over 20 years.
