Caledonia Middle School holds Multicultural Day celebration

CALEDONIA, Miss. – Caledonia Middle School held their multicultural day celebration today on campus.

Many different countries and their cultures were represented with hand-made displays and presentation boards. classes at the school such as merit, art and history classes have spent the past few weeks preparing the visuals and displaying what they have learned in research. School Counselor Natalie Faucette said that this is their 2nd time hosting the event.

“We have students from many different countries or kids that have lived in different countries that weren’t born there,” said Faucette. “But they’ve lived there, and they have so many shared experiences that maybe they didn’t even realize that there were other students that had similar experiences. And then we have students who have never heard of these countries, or they’ve never understood what made them special and different in their own way. So, we want to exhibit those different qualities and different cultural experiences, so students can actually experience them in a positive way.”

School officials said that in the time frame they had, students showed a high level of excitement and leadership when it came to learning about multiculturalism.

“It shows that the students are leaders,” said Faucette. “It shows that they are excited about celebrating differences, and it just shows that they are taking the initiative to be the leaders in showing multiculturalism in a positive light. They’ve been so helpful and they’ve been very creative. They have taken the initiative to plan, to build and even to set up the event. So, they’ve done a phenomenal job.”

School officials were excited to see the level of leadership the students displayed when putting the exhibit together.
