Carbon monoxide leak closes Rankin Elementary School gym

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – A Tupelo elementary school gym was shut down for the time being.

What was being described as a “contained” carbon monoxide leak caused the gymnasium at Rankin Elementary School to be evacuated.

According to a Tupelo Public School District spokesperson, the gym will remain off-limits until it’s been declared safe to return.

No other areas of campus were affected by the leak, but nurses and EMTs were on campus as a safety precaution.

Parents of the students who may have been affected were notified by school personnel.
