Cason Volunteer Fire Department earns Class 8 rating from MS State Rating Bureau

MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – The Hard work is paying off for one volunteer fire station in Monroe County.

The Cason Volunteer Fire Department recently earned a Class 8 rating from the Mississippi State Rating Bureau.

The MSRB is a Public Protection Classification score that rates fire stations and communities’ abilities to effectively fight fires.

The rating is based on several factors, including fire department, equipment, water supply, and emergency communication.

The PPC rating is based on a 1 to 10 scale, with one being the highest.

Lower scores have the direct potential to lower fire insurance premiums, and Departments across the state are actively working to lower their score.

According to Monroe County Fire Coordinator Evan Adams, the Cason Volunteer Fire Department was previously a level 9.

Across the nation, fire departments are struggling to recruit and get funding, especially volunteer departments, so this decrease in rating shows Cason’s commitment to the PPC standard.
