Columbus and Jackson unite in mourning loss of Monique Montgomery

COLUMBUS/JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) – Family and friends are mourning the loss of a longtime member of the legal and religious communities in Columbus and Jackson.

Monique Montgomery passed away Saturday after a brief illness.

Montgomery had an expansive background in the legal field. She practiced law for nearly 25 years. She served as a public defender in Clay County.

She and her husband, Rev. Tony Montgomery, led the historic Missionary Union Baptist Church in Columbus for 22 years. They moved to Jackson in 2019 to lead Greater St. James Missionary Baptist Church and she continued her legal career.

There will be a memorial for Montgomery on Thursday at 5 p.m. at Greater St. James in Jackson.

Visitation will be held Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Missionary Union Baptist Church in Columbus.

Funeral services will be on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Southside Missionary Baptist Church.

Montgomery is survived by her husband, two daughters, and one son.

She was 57 years old.
