Columbus Exchange Club’s ‘One Nation Under God’ event honors veterans

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – The Columbus Exchange Club hosted an event to recognize current and former service members ahead of Veterans Day.

The club’s “One Nation Under God” event featured special music, prayer, and keynote speaker, Bill Free.

Free retired as Lt. Colonel from the Air Force in 2019 and established a career as a Deputy Operations Group Commander and Squadron Commander at Columbus Air Force Base.

He now serves as a T-6 simulator and academic instructor for the Columbus Air Force Base.

Free explained why continuing to recognize veterans and the Veterans Day holiday is so important.

“Well, it comes down to ultimately service before self. I think it’s a great opportunity to recognize those who have put our nation and our country before their own interest. I think the time and the effort that all veterans have put forth says a lot about their character and what they mean to this country. I’m lucky to be standing here to talk to you. I know a lot before me have gone and don’t have that same luxury,” said Free.

Free joined the Air Force Academy to play football in 1995.
