Columbus Light and Water celebrating taking power to the people

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- Flipping a switch to turn on the lights is something you might take for granted, but there’s a whole team of people working around the clock every day to make that happen.

And this week has been set aside to celebrate some of them.

Public Power Week is set aside to highlight how publicly owned utilities benefit the customers they serve, and it provides a platform for those customers to learn more about that power gets to their homes and benefits their daily lives.

Columbus Light and Water held a celebration today around their offices on 5th Street South.

There were hot dogs, popcorn, and other treats for everyone.

It’s a chance to give a pat on the back to the workers who get power to the people.

“When you think about utility professionals,a nd you know, power, utility, and even water, they work 24/7 whenever the need is there; they have to respond, and that is our commitment. We wake up every day trying ot figure out how we can do what we do better, so that we can service our community to the fullest.”

Public Power Week is celebrated each year during the first week of October.
